Crazy how fast one year as come and gone.
A LOT has happened. We moved to Florida. I had my third baby. Brantley spent 10 days in the NICU. He came home healthy on Labor Day. My brother told me he and his wife were expecting. After a long 3 year battle, my father passed away from cancer. My husband's nieces graduated from high school and one niece got into her top pick college, University of Tennessee. My brother had a healthy baby boy. My mom got a puppy for companionship. We sold our restaurant. That's a lot to have happen in one year. Let's just start with how we ended up in Florida shall we?
After years in planning to move from Sevierville, TN to Destin, FL , we have now been permanent residents of the emerald coast for one year. We moved when I was 7 months pregnant. I'll never forget making that drive at 4:00am, with my then 13 month old, 9 year old and our 1 year old golden retriever Fenway, following my husband Travis driving the moving truck, pulling behind a car, along with our two cats, Kitty and Ruby. It was about an 8.5 hour trip. I was pleasantly surprised how easy the drive was, considering I knew I'd have to get creative to entertain two kids while driving with a big bump trying to not get pancake butt. We had a movie player in our SUV so the boys were pretty entertained the while time. My dog didn't say a peep the entire drive. He would poke his head up every once in a while then go back to sleep. My just turned one year old had a new car seat that we faced forwards so he was wicked excited about being able to finally see everything we see and loved watching movies the whole time. It was a breeze. Watching my husband trying to drive the biggest moving truck ever, was pretty funny. We had to stop multiple times because our oldest cat Kitty kept getting out of her cat carrier freaking out and going under my husbands feet while he was driving. She was driving him nuts so she eventually sat right next to me the rest of the way. We went to the title company right when we arrived in Destin and moved in our new house the same day. It was the longest day ever. I'd say packing was even harder. I don't know how people move multiple times. We moved in January of last year, out of our home and into a rental house for three months until our oldest finished school. We had boxes everywhere. It was a mess. Plus a storage unit in the driveway. Then packed up again and made the final move down to the sunshine state. A year has gone by fast. Some things we've learned in a year being in Florida. Fire ants are real! I got bit pretty bad last summer when I was pregnant. Cockroaches are a real thing too. And they are not little and cute like in the movie wallE. Rain storms come on before you know it. I now always keep umbrellas and towels in my car. Bug spray and sunblock is a must wherever we go. Cloudy? Overcast? Hazy? You will get burnt. Hence - always bring sunblock. Seafood is always good idea. I will not need to put away all the summer clothes and take out the winter clothes. (That's what I did when I lived in Boston). Warmer weather yes. Shoveling no. Always something to do here. More outdoor activities. Go out my front door and be greeted by lizards everyday. Flowers stay bloom in my backyard almost the whole year. Fresh orange juice out of the orange tree in my backyard is a plus. Patio dining the whole year. Beach day everyday. Fishing is a must. So here's a look back on that move one year ago.
